TIMELINE CHANGE UPDATE - Elementary Planning Initiative Update: Nottingham Listed as Potential Option School
Elementary Planning Initiative Update:
APS Staff posted an updated timeline of the process. Please review it. In summary, there will NOT be a recommendation or school board action of any kind before June. As I mentioned in yesterday’s update, the process is fluid and adaptable as APS staff meets with all stakeholders, principals and instructional staff. This updated timeline proves that point.
I also mentioned yesterday, this is not a signal to become complacent and disengaged. It means that staff is listening and we must continue to engage with them and our elected officials as new data, analyses and presentations are made available. I strongly believe that all elementary schools (except the Drew, Fleet, Henry Montessori and Reed as determined by school board action) are on the table and all ideas are being considered.
As this process continues, it is important to show up to office hours, meetings and similar forums in person. While emails, phone calls, and online petitions play an important role in this process, having in-person contact goes a very, very long way.
At last night’s school board meeting there were roughly 20+ people from Key, 20+ people from Science Focus and 20+ people from Henry. While all the speakers were saying/asking for similar things – primarily do not move any neighborhood or option schools - there were just two of us from Nottingham. To continue and push the message that Nottingham should remain a neighborhood school, please, please attend and speak in person.
APS staff “Open Office Hours” are tomorrow morning Saturday, April 21: 9:30-11:00am at Kenmore Middle School. Swing by after the 5K…you’ll have plenty of time to get there!
School Board Open Office Hours are held on Mondays. The schedule for office hours are posted here: https://www.apsva.us/contact-the-school-board/open-office-hours/
We set up a sign-up genius for both upcoming office hours - go with a friend or neighbor. The more people they see the better. http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0F44A5AF2EA5F58-nottingham
Going forward, updates on this topic will be provided in the weekly newsletter, the public affairs update (approximately every other week), as well as on our webpage www.nespta.org. All presentations, analyses, letters, emails, etc. for this process are currently posted on our website and will be updated as information becomes available.
