NEXT STEPS - Elementary Planning Initiative Update: Nottingham Listed as Potential Option School
Elementary Planning Initiative Update:
Nottingham Listed as Potential Option School – NEXT STEPS
Thank you to those who have shared their feedback on this pressing matter. After reading, watching and mulling over the APS presentation and analysis over the weekend, I am more convinced than ever that the initial analysis is flat out wrong. Nottingham should not be considered as an option site.
Based on APS’s own criteria (Walkers, Buses, Growth, Geography), Nottingham only satisfies one of the criteria - to show anything else in the presentation and analysis at best is an oversight and at worst are untruths and incompetence.
So what do we do now?
We will hold a special PTA meeting this Tuesday, April 17 at 7:00 pm in the Nottingham library. The goal of this meeting is to construct a purposeful plan to remove Nottingham from the list of potential option school sites. Please join and bring your ideas.
APS staff (Lisa Stengel’s staff) will NOT be at the April 17 PTA meeting. Rather, they invited Simon Mouer (School Ambassador), myself and a few additional parents to meet with them at their office, Thursday, April 19 at 8:30 am. We can determine who can go to the APS meeting during our Tuesday PTA meeting.
Linked here and attached below the jump is an email you can modify and send to APS staff at firstname.lastname@example.org and School Board members at email@example.com. The more they hear from individual families, the better. You can also draft your own letter, email or call as well. A copy of what I sent can be viewed here.
I will be attending the School Board Open Office Hours https://www.apsva.us/contact-the-school-board/open-office-hours/on Monday, April 16 (and again on April 23 and 30). I welcome you to join me. April 16 office hours are 5-7 pm at the Arlington Education Center, 1426 N. Quincy Street, Arlington, Virginia 22207. I plan to be at the School Board Open Office hours on the earlier side in order to make it to the APS Engage Staff open office hours taking place on Monday, April 16 from 7-8:30 pm at Wakefield.
I will sign up to speak at the April 19 school board meeting. I encourage you to speak at the school board meeting as well. Instructions are https://www.apsva.us/school-board-meetings/sign-up-to-speak/and for the April 19 meeting we would speak under “Citizen Comment on Non-Agenda Items”.
In summary, this week’s schedule:
I look forward to working together as one school community to remove Nottingham as a candidate for an option site and maintain it as a NEIGHBORHOOD school.
